On the seashore of the isle of Aegyna. There is an incredibly heavy low frequency coming from the ferries cruising at about 10 km away on the horizon. One first thought that the sound was reverberated by the mountainous islands, but possibly it is the resonnance of the sea itself that carry it on, just like it does with the waves...

A funny sonic encounter in Plovdiv. Recorded in motion from inside the mosque, as the muezzin is connecting his microphone & starting to sing, then slowly getting out & walking around the central place. There was a band playing just before & they stopped, waiting for the end of the prayer to restart. Contrast of ambiences & mutual respect...

Crowdy holliday afternoon on the historical square of Krakov. At six, everyday, a trompet player blows 4 times (once towards each cardinal direction) from the top of the cathedral’s tower. If the one toward the square can be clearly heard, the three others get more or less lost in the crowd’s rumor, but yet not completely.

Angelus bells in Venezia. Walking around San Rocco & San Pantalon one can hear the sound of bells differently colored by the size & configuration of each little street but also a strange acoustic phenomenon wich is the permanence of a certain range of frequencies (around 400/500Hz) all along the walk. It feels like the whole space is saturated by this tone.

Bardonecchia, little ski place in the old way. There is a delicate balance between the sounds of skiers, the voices & the dog reverberating on the next forest, the mecanics of chairlifts, wind, steps on the melting springtime snow &, by the end, the music coming out from the cabin...

The surface of this 2 km long motorway bridge in Lisboa is partly made of duck-boards that produce a strange continuum evelopping all around. We are about 50m under & this sound evokes a hive or something even more organic for its not a flat regular & mecanical sound but it’s ondulating dependently to the traffic.

This is a recording of the ambiance in a grand cafe at San Filiu de Guixols. In the first part we can hear the voices filling the space, & almost feel them souding with the woody matter of the room. In the second part some electronic sounds of a machine invade, little by little, the environment & the voices seem to be less at ease or even shut. this is to illustrate an aspect of the recent evolution of our sound environment.

In a square room of Ujazdow Castle, Warszawa, with walls, floor & Ceiling made of smooth stone, & (important detail) the top of the walls a little rounded to join the ceiling, here are a few basic exercices of « barehand acoustics ». With fingers snapping, hands clapings & steps taping one can reveal the reverberation & the floating echoe from the center point of the room. With the voice speaking & then singing, one can find its resonnance frequency (around 320Hz here), & almost measure its size by the ear...
